Galileo VR project unveiled at Museo Galileo in Florence

The Museo Galileo in Florence introduces “Galileo VR,” a collaborative project with VIS that uses virtual reality to immerse visitors in the life, discoveries, and trial of Galileo Galilei.

Our new virtual reality experience – “Galileo VR” – was presented at the Museo Galileo in Florence on February 14, 2025. This innovative project, produced by VIS in collaboration with Museo Galileo, aims to tell the story of the famous and emblematic figure of Galileo Galilei, his life, revolutionary discoveries, and the famous trial and abjuration.

Thanks to immersive VR technology, guests will be transported to the heart of the 17th century, witnessing first-hand the brilliance and the struggles of the great scientist who changed the course of history. Through stand-alone VR headsets, users will explore Galileo’s groundbreaking discoveries, from his pioneering astronomical observations to his defiance of dogma, culminating in the dramatic events of his infamous trial.

Visitors will be able to access the VR experience in a dedicated area of the museum dedicated to “Galileo’s new world”. The official launch is set for this spring, promising to provide a new way to engage the audiences with history and science.

This collaboration between Museo Galileo and VIS marks a significant leap forward in museum storytelling, offering an interactive and emotionally engaging journey through the life of one of history’s greatest minds.

The project is financed by the European Union – Next Generation EU, in the framework of PNRR Ministero della Cultura – TOCC (Transition Creative and Cultural Organisms) call for proposals.
